Shopping

Shopping is a lost art! One I am badly in need of learning. I don't mean shopping for clothes or accessories or household items, I mean FOOD. It's true. The art of going into a grocery store and buying only what one needs to feed ones family is a lost art.
I know, I have a family of 5 and I am amazed that I can go into the store and spend hundreds of dollars and think I am buying so much food; then I get home I put it all away and realize I actually have no food. Who else has done this?? Is it just me??
I blame the impulse buys and the packaged meals and of course...myself for poor planning. Does anyone create menu's? The smart people do I am sure. I however am not one of those. I've tried to do it that way and it just doesn't work for me or my family. We are by nature impulsive in everything.
I need to take a homemaker class. Do they offer those? I mean I am only a part time homemaker as I also hold down a part time job but even fulltime parents are homemakers some of the time. It's an important aspect and needs to be addressed.
Anyone know of a homemaker class or some lecture or hands on learning for creating menus and getting the most for your buck at the grocery store? I want to go to the store and come home and know that I will not being looking in my cupboards and fridge in 3 days saying what happened to all that food I just bought?
Help! Anyone!

Thanks for listening

Day at the Lake

Yesterday my family had a great day at the lake. At 4 it was still 95 degrees out and the water was wonderful! It was like swimming in bathwater. The lake is abundantly full which made it all the better. It is so full that we actually were swimming where a parking lot is. Which was nice to since it meant we didn't have to wade through the muck that is usually found on the bottom of a lake.

I didn't take my camera though so I have no pictures. Next time.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

FRIDAY

Yay for Friday!

I love my weekends!

I had two glorious days of training at my corporate office where it was nice and warm! While at home there was all sorts of fog. YAY me again! I learned all kinds of new stuff I can put into practice in my office.

No progress on the house front but we will get there.

Looking forward to more training in the big city next month, the downside to it is training falls on the first week of Kindergarten for Miss Rose. That really sucks I wanted to be here for it but it's only the first week then I'll have the whole rest of the year to be here.

Party Success

OK well I made ice cream cone cupcakes and they were a success, I didn't take pics of me making them but My aunt took pics of the result and I will post them as soon as I get them from her. Mind you they aren't the prettiest things but they were certainly delicious.

Since Miss Rose's Party was at the bowling alley and we would have to do the clean up and had a time frame and all that good stuff I didn't want to have to bring a whole bunch of things. I found these recipes for cupcakes baked in ice cream cones and thought they were a great idea but put my own spin on them. I still didn't want to have to bring plates and silverware and all that so I decided to bake them 1/3 full of yellow cake, put 1/3 of ice cream and them bake a chocolate cake in a cake pan and cut out circles the size of the top of the ice cream cones fit them on there and then frost them. The result would be cake and ice cream in a minimal mess and completely edible, no plates no silverware just some napkins.

I used mint chocloate chip and strawberry ice cream so there would be a bit of a choice.

They were delicious.!

All the kids had a great time only one actually bowled 10 frames the others quit after 4 but what can you expect of 4-6 year old kids :) I had quarters for the arcade games and everyone had fun. I call that a successful party!

A Plan

I think I may just have to load up my family and drive all over the country and find a place and then just stay there :)

Now gas money would be our problem there, maybe with income taxes, but I may have to have a bigger car first. What we have now we fit in but that's about it. Well we could pack our camping stuff and do that all along the way, I have a feeling my husband would so not be on board with this though.

Hmmm...I'm not sure, I will have to think about it, talk it over with my handsome husband, and then think some more I think. I don't know if I know what I am saying anymore. Did you get all o that?

Tomorrow is the big party So excited! I can't wait to make Miss Rose's ice cream cone cakes. I will take pics and let you know how they turn out, I hope it's god cuz I'm kinda just making it up.

The Joys of Parenthood

So...(again with the so...oh well) I'm going to the big city with my aunt today and we are leaving at 6 am. I went to bed last night, set my alarm, woke up, got all ready to go, grab my cell phone to text her to let me know when she is in my parking lot,and notice that my children must have played with my alarm clock because it is 5 am not 6. So now I have an hour to be quiet because everyone else in my house is sleeping. Ah the joys of parenthood.

Midwest?

So...I think it is interesting how my posts seem to start with so... all the time, I need to find a new entry :)

The Midwest is looking really good for the relocation. It's not too expensive, I can get some acreage with a house on it big enough for my family and it has all 4 seasons basically everything I want in a place to move. However the Midwest is still a pretty big area to cover now I have to narrow it down to a state then a county maybe and eventually all the way down to a town. Now Usually I would focus on school and jobs to help me with that but since I am about 99% sure I want to home school instead all I need to find are jobs. Which again in this economy will be oh so fun.

Today was a beautiful day and let's not forget it's Friday! I took all my little munchkins for a short walk while we had a bit of blue sky, came home about the same time the fog came back, stinkin coast!

Off to the big city tomorrow to pick up my Aunt's little brother at the Airport.

Then on Sunday is Miss Rose's Birthday Party! Yay!

I will post some pics when I get my card reader all fixed. Stinkin computer won't accept my memory cards and load my photos, makes me sad.

I hope to get a printer for my birthday or maybe a fancy camera, definitely going to an amusement park though!

Thanks for stoppin by,
Have a great one!

House Hunting

For months now, well more like a couple years but anyways, my husband and I have been house hunting. Now that would be a lot easier if we new where we were going to hunt for a house. We have looked at houses where we live currently but most days we don't want to live here forever, we have looked at houses from my husband's hometown and a lot of days we do want to live there, and then we have looked at homes in places like North Carolina and Indiana and Nebraska and Montana and Vermont and many other places. It is just such a big world! We need to figure out the where I think first before we can actually hunt the house but we havent been too many places.

We don't want to live somewhere that is really expensive which in this economy is going to be a challenge in itself and then we have to be able to find work wherever it is we buy a house.

See now this is when most would say well you already have jobs where you live currently, which is true, BUT...when we buy a house I will no longer have a job as my job is a Resident Manager and as such to keep it I have to live on site. I want a house and a yard and animals. We will see and we will keep looking.

Day One

So, I'm not very good at diaries, and I am much better at reading than at writing; but I have been inspired to give this a try.

As of today Miss Rose has 2 more swim classes and then we are all off camping for the holiday weekend. Miss Rose is loving her swim lessons and I gotta say it is a joy watching her each day get more confident in the water.

I am also in the process of planning her 5th birthday party, which she wants to have at the bowling alley. I think that would be a great place to have it and am hammering out the details. Any advice or inspirations would be more than welcome and appreciated, this will be my first party not at "home".

I hope to get recent photos of my family uploaded to my computer so I can post them on here and send them to friends and family.
